KCC TERM OF THE MONTHOFFER
Offer has different meanings at different levels. If you receive an offer in a head count sport at the D1 level ( men’s basketball, FBS football, woman’s basketball volleyball , gymnastics , tennis ) it is automatically a full ride. If you receive an offer at the D3 level there are no financial implications at all. It is just an offer of a roster spot, if you are admitted to the university. If you receive an offer at the D2,NAIA or D1 non head count sport, , that offer can vary. You can be offered a full ride or you could be offered 1000$. It is up to the discretion of the coach, as to how much is offered . Keep in mind most student athletes don’t get full athletic scholarships at the D2 and NAIA levels but what coaches can do in most cases is “ stack “ money which means adding athletic scholarship money to academic scholarship money to give you the best package possible.
KCC TIP OF THE MONTH
If you are emailing schools don’t just email the head coach! The head coach typically doesn’t read many emails from recruits. When emailing a school email the head coach, multiple assistant coaches, recruiting coordinator, director of operations and graduate assistants. You want as many people on the staff to see you as possible.

KCC TERM OF THE MONTH- Preferred Walk-on
The preferred walk-on is a newer term that has just emerged in the 2000’s. A preferred walk-on is just a walk-on that was recruited. The preferred walk-on has a guaranteed spot on the team and does not have to “ try out “. However the preferred walk-on is still a walk-on meaning they are not receiving any athletic scholarship money.
KCC TIP OF THE MONTH
Social media ( twitter/x, instagram etc)
Student athletes make sure that you are consistently updating your social media platforms. You should be updating your film, gpa, physical information as those things change
KCC COLLEGE COACHES TIP OF THE MONTH :

KCC TERM OF THE MONTH- FAFSA
Free Application For Federal Student Aid
The FAFSA is a financial aid document that is used to determine how much federal aid you are eligible for. Federal aid comes in the form of grants ( free money) and loans ( money you must pay back). Your FAFSA can also impact how much institutional aid you receive in many situations as well. When you fill out the FAFSA you will receive your SAI (student aide index). The most popular federal grant is the Pell Grant.
KCC TIP OF THE MONTH
Campus Visits- two really important questions to ask a coach on a campus visit.
1. Coach, your players that graduated in 2024,2023,2022 where are they working right now, do you have relationships with alumni that can help me get a job when I graduate?
2. Coach, your kids who are juniors and seniors currently, where did they have internships last summer ? Can you help me get an internship when I am a junior or senior ?
If the coach can’t answer those questions then that should be a huge red flag for you as a student athlete.

Stats: “ don’t get caught up with statistics. Statistics have never gotten anyone a scholarship. Your stats will just get eyes on you but you still have to perform when those eyes are watching. Your film and the level of competition you are competing against carry much more weight than your stats.”
